Over time, brass, bronze, and sterling silver will develop a patina, especially when exposed to heat and humidity. The more you wear your jewelry, the less tarnished it will become because it's constantly being "polished" by contact with skin and clothing. To restore the finish, use a jewelry polishing cloth, or for a more matte finish, use a little baking soda mixed with water. (Avoid using baking soda on gemstones to prevent scratches!)
