Methods & Materials

It is our goal to have the most sustainable, environmentally responsible studio possible, and we're always looking out for better methods and materials. Here are a few green practices currently in place:

  • All precious metals are recycled
  • Bronze is sustainably sourced
  • Metal scraps are saved, sorted, and recycled
  • We use eco-friendly rags instead of disposable paper towels
  • Packaging is minimal, compact, and printed on recycled and found materials whenever possible
  • We reuse packaging from supply shipments
  • Our jewelry is shipped in hand-stamped cotton bags, which we encourage you to reuse. (We like to use them for jewelry storage, travel pouches, and herbal drawer sachets.)

All metals are sourced from reputable companies in the USA and are lead-free. Pieces are hand-fabricated here in the Montana studio with the exception of casts, which are made by a small family company in the US and then finished in Montana.  

 

Why does fabrication take up to three weeks? 

It rarely takes that long, but we want you to be aware of the possibility in case we get slammed or castings have to be redone. Typical turnaround is a few days up to two weeks. Because Laurel Hill Jewelry is a small company (like, very small), we don't keep all inventory on hand at all times. We feel our energy and resources are best focused on the present, while taking up minimal space and creating minimal waste. We always have varied inventory on hand, and some pieces have a very quick turnaround time, so if you need something immediately, please get in touch! We're happy to help. 

 

Shipping

As most pieces are handmade to order, please allow 1-3 weeks of fabrication time before your order ships. Your jewelry will usually be shipped within a week, but occasionally we need a little extra time. Your unique handmade piece will be worth the wait! 

Shipping times below are based on the date when the order is shipped. Please let us know if you have a deadline, and we will do our best to expedite your order. Express orders will receive priority in the production queue. 

All jewelry ships in a hand-stamped muslin keepsake bag. Please let us know if you'd like a hand-stenciled gift box as well. We encourage you to reuse and recycle your bags! The uses are endless, including jewelry storage, travel bags, or herb-filled drawer sachets.

Orders are shipped via USPS with tracking. Please note that USPS only guarantees shipping times for Express shipments, and we cannot be held responsible for delays once packages leave our hands. Tracking may be unavailable for some international shipments.

  • Priority (2-3 business days; arrival date is not guaranteed): $5
  • Express (2 business days, arrival date is guaranteed): $25

    • Standard Shipping (7-30 business days): $10.25 - 12.75
    • Canada Priority (6-10 business days): $19.95 - 28.25
    • Canada Express (3-5 business days): $33.95
    • Global Priority (6-10 business days): $23.95 - 39.95
    • Global Express (3-5 business days): $52.00

    International buyers are responsible for any customs fees that may arise.

     

    Jewelry Care

    Over time, your jewelry will develop a patina, especially when exposed to heat and humidity. The more you wear your jewelry, the less tarnished it will become because it's constantly being "polished" by contact with skin and clothing. To restore the finish, use a jewelry polishing cloth, or for a more matte finish, use a little baking soda mixed with water.  (Avoid using baking soda on gemstones to prevent scratches!)  

    Tips to prevent tarnish-- 

    • Heat and humidity accelerate oxidization, so avoid leaving jewelry in the bathroom.
    • Limit contact between jewelry and cosmetics/lotions.
    • Store jewelry in a ziplock bag.
    • Wear it all the time!

    Repairs

    Repair fees vary, please contact us at hello@laurelhilljewelry.com for a quote.  If an item is damaged due to normal wear and tear, we will repair it free of charge within a year of purchase.  

     

    Returns & Exchanges

    Please contact us at hello@laurelhilljewelry.com if you'd like to return or exchange your jewelry. Returns and exchanges are accepted within 14 days of arrival, and items must be in their original condition. Buyers are responsible for shipping charges, and we highly recommend adding delivery confirmation and insurance, as we are not responsible for packages that are lost or damaged in transit.  Sales of custom pieces are final.
